জানা যায়, গত (২৫ জানুয়ারি) সিলেট থেকে আসা একটি বালুবাহী জাহাজ মেঘনা নদীর তীর সংলগ্ন নলচর গ্রামে নোঙ্গর করে। বালুর জাহাজের ভিতরে লুকিয়ে আসা মেছো বাঘটি লাফিয়ে পড়ে গ্রামের কবরস্থানের দিকে পালিয়ে যেতে চেষ্টা করে। এসময় গ্রামবাসী দীর্ঘক্ষণ চেষ্টা চালিয়ে ওই মেছো বাঘটি আটক করে। পরে এটিকে মেঘনা উপজেলা প্রশাসনের নিকট হস্তান্তর করা হয়। মেঘনা উপজেলা প্রশাসন কুমিল্লা জেলা প্রশাসকের কাছে হস্তান্তর করে। পরবর্তীতে জেলা প্রশাসকের নির্দেশে কুমিল্লা চিড়িয়াখানার কর্তৃপক্ষের মাধ্যমে বাঘটিকে চিড়িয়াখানার একটি খাঁচায় বন্দি রাখা হয়।
